Back in May 27th 2006, the now-defunct movement ”Voice for Europe” held a demonstration in Klosterneuburg, Wien, Austria, standing for European values and against reckless expansion of the European Union. The demonstration was held at an inofficial meeting for the EU foreign ministers, originally meant to revive the Constitution Treaty recently killed off by referenda in France and Netherlands. Denigrating Religious Stupidity

While I was working on a polite essay ”What is ‘denigration’, really?”, events overtook the intended polite and analytical approach. At an Austrian court, Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff had her conviction for ”Denigrating the teachings of a recognized religion” upheld. The court deemed that her uttering ”an excess of opinion” about Muhammad having sex with minors, and that doing so was subject to a fine of 480 euros, alternatively 60 days in jail. Continue reading

One of the recurring themes of the current intellectual elite is the battle against racism and xenophobia. This is rooted in the atrocities of the Second World War, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and the UN Convention for Ending all forms of Racism and Discrimination (CERD). There is a broad push to teach everyone about racism and xenophobia, and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is at the heart of this effort.
